No, this is not a science fiction movie, but a reality. The Philadelphia based company Bioquark will try to reverse death for the first time ever in history.
They say the trials will begin this year.
Bioquark Think The Brain Death State Could Be Reversed!
The company’s first statements that they believe the brain death state is not irreversible were at the end of 2016.
The CEO, Ira Pastor, announced they will start the groundbreaking testing on a stem cell method on Latin American patients. The details will be confirmed later on this month.
In most countries, a patient has to experience total and irreversible loss of brain functions before being officially declared as dead.
Ira Pastor says the company has created a series of injections powerful enough to reboot a dead person’s brain. So, they want to try the injections on humans later this year.
Rebooting the Brain of a Dead Person in Different Stages
Bioquark plans to do this in different stages. The first stage involves removing stem cells from the patient’s blood, and then injecting them back into their body.
They will inject peptides into the patient’s spinal cord. Then, scientists will put the patient under median nerve stimulation and nerve stimulation for 15 days.
Using MRI scans, they will monitor the patient all the time. Even though last year there was supposed to be a human trial in India, the Indian Council of Medical Research, stopped this revolutionary plan.
The first stage of the trial is known to be a proof of concept study on a single group using a non-random method.
The Team Will Analyze Brain Dead People Looking for Reversal Signs
The team will investigate people who died from a traumatic brain injury, or more exactly their brain which was declared as dead. Using MRI scans, the scientists will look for signs that their brain death state can be reversed.
All the subjects will be at the age between 15 and 65. In the past, declaring a person’s death was pretty straightforward. The patients’ heart should stop beating and they should stop breathing.
On the other hand, the technology we have today enables a person’s brain keep on functioning with the help of ventilator. Also, it helps oxygen to continue moving through a patient’s body.
So, in most countries nowadays, a death is declared when there’s a permanent and irreversible loss of the brain stem function.
Reanima Project Has Trials As One Part of It
The name of the whole project is Reanima, and these Bioquark trials are just part of it. According to the official website of Reanima, they hope to analyze the full biomedical technology’s potential for human neuro-reanimation with neuro-regeneration.
As Ira Pastor explains, the aim of the project as well as the company is to focus on clinical research into the state of irreversible coma and that of brain death in people who’d met the Uniform Determination of Death Act’s criteria.
Also, they have to pronounced living cadaver – a body kept only on cardiopulmonary support.
